Prólogo: a primeira faísca

Max começou a compor e a compartilhar riffs, melodias e estruturas enquanto a música tomava forma.

A partir desse material, Max Cruz escreveu a letra de “Into the Crystal Deep”, conectando a música a uma história maior.

A Intro: o chamado do mestre

A voz apresenta a lenda; a trilha revela o clima; a faixa seguinte inicia a descida.

Into the Crystal Deep

“Into the Crystal Deep” é a origem musical da Àlfar Quest.

“Into the crystal deep they will fall
Where the echoes of the past still call”

“The mirror grins, it knows their name
Their fate, their flaw, their deepest shame”

Musicalmente, “Into the Crystal Deep” equilibra guitarras melódicas, orquestrações densas e coros solenes.

Fabio Lione e a estreia

A primeira passagem

“Into the Crystal Deep” não é somente o primeiro single da Àlfar Quest.

A Intro faz o chamado. “Into the Crystal Deep” inicia a missão.

Prologue: The First Spark

The story of Àlfar Quest began before the public heard its first note. On March 27, 2025, Carlos Bueno met Max Cruz through Fiverr, beginning a collaboration that would, months later, grow from a one-off composition into the foundation of a band, a fantasy universe, and a musical campaign called The Cave Beyond Time.

At that point, Carlos had already released two original songs in collaboration with Guilherme Hirose. Those compositions had brought together musicians he met online, including Renan Guerra, guitarist of Pagan Throne and a future member of Àlfar Quest.

It was also a demanding period in Carlos’s life. With a one-year-old child and a house move underway, he had less time available to start a new composition from scratch. Looking for a creative partner led him to Max.

The original goal was clear: to develop a fast, melodic track with a direction close to Stratovarius, one that could fit the style of Guilherme Hirose’s solo project. Max began composing and sharing riffs, melodies, and arrangements as the song took shape.

The partnership soon went beyond its original purpose. Conversations about tabletop RPGs, medieval fantasy, music, and songwriting created an affinity that directly shaped the track’s development. Max brought together a crucial set of skills: he was a drummer, guitarist, composer, and orchestrator. He already knew Guilherme Hirose because he had performed on the same Northtale shows during the period when Hirose was the band’s vocalist — not as a member of Northtale, but as part of the same live circuit and scene.

When Rejection Becomes a Beginning

When the composition was presented to Guilherme Hirose, it did not find a place in his solo project. This was not a matter of quality; the song simply did not match the artistic direction and musical identity Hirose intended to pursue.

What could have ended the song’s story instead opened a larger possibility. Carlos already believed deeply in the music and did not want to lose the friendship and creative partnership he had built with Max. Rather than adapting the track to an existing identity, he proposed creating a band that could be born around that composition.

The idea was to make metal rooted in original tabletop RPG stories. It would not merely use medieval fantasy as a lyrical backdrop, but develop characters, lands, conflicts, quests, and consequences that continued from song to song. For that, the project needed someone dedicated to the narrative and genuinely integrated into the band.

Max had the right person in mind: his childhood friend from New York, Kevin Brown.

The Birth of a Universe

With Kevin Brown joining as Quest Writer, the idea gained its definitive dimension. Kevin began developing the narrative foundation that would turn Àlfar Quest into a project where music, literature, and tabletop RPGs are part of the same journey.

By mid-July 2025, the first chapter of The Cave Beyond Time was already complete. From that material, Max Cruz wrote the lyrics to “Into the Crystal Deep,” connecting the composition to a larger story. Carlos Bueno created the bass lines, and the song became the saga’s first musical chapter.

This process established an essential creative rule for Àlfar Quest: the narrative is not a layer added after the music is finished. It influences the lyrics, atmosphere, orchestrations, arrangements, and purpose of every song.

Max took on a central role in the project’s musical creation, contributing around 70% of its compositions. Carlos and Renan would contribute the remaining 30% at different stages, while Rafael Braz joined later, when much of the first album was already underway. Rafael balanced his arrival in Àlfar Quest with the completion of work for his other band, Enorion, regarded as a sister band to the project.

The Intro: The Game Master’s Call

The Intro to The Cave Beyond Time was not created merely to fill the space before the first song. Written by Kevin Brown, it works as the opening of the book, the tabletop RPG campaign, and the musical adventure itself.

Its purpose resembles that of a Dungeon Master at the beginning of a session: to introduce the setting, establish the atmosphere, hint at the dangers ahead, and prepare the players — or, in this case, the listeners — for what they are about to face. Before the quest begins, the Intro opens the first door into that world.

The narration was recorded by American voice artist Andy Harvey, whose work is specialized in medieval-fantasy voices. His performance was designed to feel like a summons: a presence that leads the listener beyond the everyday world and calls them to cross the boundary between reality and imagination.

The accompanying score was composed by Renan Guerra. His arrangement builds the bridge between the narration and “Into the Crystal Deep,” creating a gradual transition from the introduction of the world to the beginning of the quest. The voice presents the legend; the score reveals the atmosphere; the following track begins the descent.

Into the Crystal Deep

“Into the Crystal Deep” is the musical origin of Àlfar Quest. Before there was a fully established lineup, an album in progress, or an expanded mythology, there was already the composition that would become the band’s first artistic statement.

Released on December 9, 2025, the song marked Àlfar Quest’s official public debut. It introduced the combination that would become central to the group’s identity: melodic guitars, power metal energy, dense orchestrations, solemn choirs, and cinematic songwriting driven by narrative.

Within the saga, the song follows three figures crossing a threshold between light and darkness. Their descent into the Crystal Deep is not merely a physical exploration; it is an unavoidable confrontation with memory, guilt, fear, and identity. The crystal represents an absolute truth, reflecting the flaws, destinies, and fears that each character attempts to hide.

“Into the crystal deep they will fall
Where the echoes of the past still call”

The journey offers no guarantee of return. With every step, the characters draw closer to a place where past, present, and future may no longer follow familiar rules.

“The mirror grins, it knows their name
Their fate, their flaw, their deepest shame”

Musically, “Into the Crystal Deep” balances melodic guitars, dense orchestrations, and solemn choirs. Its weight is not there only for impact: the arrangements build an almost cinematic space in which metal becomes narrative language, accompanying a passage through corridors of memory, reflections, and revelation.

Fabio Lione and the Debut

Once the song was ready, Carlos shared “Into the Crystal Deep” with Raphael Casotto, a friend he had known for several months. After hearing it, Casotto immediately recognized the potential for a guest appearance that could take the song to another level: Fabio Lione.

At the time, Casotto was following Angra on a tour before the band’s hiatus and committed to speaking with Lione about the track. The idea moved forward, but it required an important decision: the band’s release was postponed by approximately three to four months until the tour was over and the vocals could be recorded.

The wait became part of the debut’s story. Fabio Lione brought a dramatic and expressive interpretation that expanded the sense of adventure, danger, and revelation at the heart of the song. His appearance is not simply that of a guest name: his voice becomes part of the track’s emotional weight and guides the listener through the corridors of memory, guilt, and discovery surrounding the Crystal Deep.

The First Passage

“Into the Crystal Deep” is not only Àlfar Quest’s first single. It is proof that a song written for another destination can reveal its true form when it finds the right world in which to exist.

It was born from the partnership between Carlos Bueno and Max Cruz, gained narrative depth through Kevin Brown, received an opening written by Kevin and performed by Andy Harvey, was musically connected by Renan Guerra’s composition, and reached its final public form through the participation of Fabio Lione.

The Intro makes the call. “Into the Crystal Deep” begins the quest. Together, these two tracks open the doors to The Cave Beyond Time and establish the promise that would guide Àlfar Quest from that point forward: not merely to create songs about fantasy, but to invite the listener into a universe where every song is another step in a greater journey.
