Àlfar Quest has released the single and lyric video for “Into the Crystal Deep,” marking the band’s official debut and forcefully introducing its artistic and conceptual vision, rooted in epic metal and melodic power metal. The track revives a grand, fantasy-driven sound—an approach that for years lost ground to the rise of modern metal but is now regaining momentum and emerging as one of the next major waves in the global metal scene.

The release also features a special appearance by Fabio Lione (ex-Angra, Rhapsody), whose presence adds historical weight and impact to the project’s debut.

The song explores a journey of inner confrontation, using the metaphor of a descent into a crystalline realm as a space of revelation. Throughout the lyrics, characters are led to face memories, guilt, and hidden truths, in a path where past and identity become intertwined. The narrative unfolds as a final test—much like in RPG campaigns—where redemption is not guaranteed and the outcome depends on one’s ability to confront their own essence.

Formed in June 2025 by Brazilian and American musicians established across South America, North America, and Europe, Àlfar Quest is a melodic power metal band with an artistic proposal deeply connected to tabletop RPGs, medieval fantasy, and storytelling.

The project emerged from a collaboration between Carlos Bueno and Max Cruz, initially resulting in a quick composition influenced by modern power metal. However, the song did not align with the artistic direction of Guilherme Hirose’s solo project, with which both musicians were collaborating. As a result, the track became the starting point for the creation of an independent band, conceived from the beginning as its own narrative universe.

Inspired by the logic of RPG campaigns, Àlfar Quest develops its songs as interconnected chapters of a larger saga, featuring original characters, settings, and mythology. To structure this universe, the project incorporated Kevin Brown as Quest Writer, a role dedicated to narrative creation, organization of the fictional world, and the conceptual development of the band. The proposal is built on the fusion of heavy music, orchestral elements, and a cinematic approach influenced by bands such as Twilight Force, Stratovarius, Rhapsody, Angra, Wind Rose, and Sabaton.

The name Àlfar Quest synthesizes this concept by combining “Álfar,” an Old Norse term meaning “elves,” and “Quest,” referring to the idea of a journey, mission, or adventure. The choice directly reflects the band’s connection to medieval fantasy and RPGs—central pillars of its artistic identity.

The full lineup features Max Cruz on vocals, guitar, and orchestrations; Carlos Bueno on bass; Renan Guerra on guitar; and Kevin Brown, responsible for narrative creation, conceptual worldbuilding, and the band’s mythology.

“Into the Crystal Deep” was produced, mixed, and mastered by Max Cruz, with artwork by Fabienne Zwicker from Germany and animations created by Reemzy from Nigeria.

The track once again features a special appearance by Fabio Lione, whose performance adds dramatic depth and historical weight to the project’s epic proposal, reinforcing the group’s identity within classic, cinematic melodic power metal.

Musically, “The Mage” maintains the signature grandeur of Àlfar Quest, now presented from an even more immersive perspective, with engaging melodic arrangements that enhance the sense of an ongoing narrative. The lyrics follow the tragedy and redemption journey of a young apprentice of magic born in the harsh city of Kae Ychel. Driven by ambition and a desire for recognition, he performs a forbidden ritual. The act unleashes an irreversible disaster, resulting in the death of his own fellow apprentices and a divine punishment that traps a demon within his heart. Condemned, he receives the title of mage but is banished, forever carrying guilt, inner darkness, and the burden of seeking redemption.

“The Mage” features Fabio Lione on vocals, Renan Guerra and Max Cruz on guitars, Rafael Braz on keyboards, and Carlos Bueno on bass, with orchestrations and choirs arranged by Max Cruz. The music and lyrics were written by Renan Guerra, Max Cruz, and Carlos Bueno. The lyric video was produced by Marcelo Silva, the artwork was created by Ale Caceres, and mixing and mastering were handled by Max Cruz. Kevin Brown is responsible for the narrative creation, development of the conceptual universe, and the band’s mythology.

The project quickly attracted attention by reviving elements of epic power metal and tabletop RPG-inspired storytelling, an approach that has been gaining strength again on the international scene.
